Use a good quality potting mix that drains well.
Half fill the pot. An eight inch pot is usually big enough.
Hold the bulb over the pot and let the roots (if any) touch the soil below.
Keep the bulb central so there is enough space aroung the bulb for side bulbs to develop.
Start to fill in with mix around the bulb until the pot is full.
Keeping the neck out of the soil and pot.
Press down gently around the bulb to ensure no air pockets and to firm up the bulb.
The neck of the bulb is not to be covered.
Add a slow release fertiliser to the top soil and water well and keep in a sunny position.
Do not over water as the bulb is still asleep. Not having roots at this stage means they are not feeding so do not require any extra care until the weather warms and day lenghtens.
